The RCWL-9196 IC-equipped Doppler radar microwave motion sensor module is a replacement for a PIR motion sensor such as the HC-SR501/HY-SRF05. When triggered, the output pin switches from a low (0V) to a high (3.3V) state for 2 to 3 seconds before returning to the low state. The module has a maximum detection distance of 7 meters, with adjustable delay time and sensitivity.

The component side of the board should face the detection area for maximum sensitivity, though it can also detect from the back side at a lower sensitivity. No metal objects should be within 1cm of the antenna.

The module operates on a voltage range of 4V to 28V, with 5V to 12V recommended. The typical operating current is 2.8mA, with a maximum of 3mA. The transmitting power is 20mW, with a maximum of 30mW.

The output control is a low level of 0V and a high level of 3.3V. The operating temperature range is -20°C to 80°C, and the storage temperature range is -40°C to 100°C. The dimensions of the module are 35mm x 17mm x 3mm.

The pin definitions are as follows: - 3V3: 3.3V power output, can be used as a reference voltage or as a low-current (less than 100mA) 3.3V power supply - GND: Ground - OUT: Control output; when a moving object is detected, it will output a high level of 3.3V - VIN: 4-28V input voltage - CDS: CDS photodetector output

The C-TM pad regulates the repeat trigger time, with the default (unpopulated) time being 2 seconds. An SMD capacitor mounted here will extend the repeat trigger time. The R-GN pad can be used to reduce the default detection range of 7 meters to 5 meters by adding a 1M resistor. The R-CDS pad is an internal VCC parallel connection with an internal 1M Ohm resistor to the CDS pin (RCWL-9196 pin 9).
